susanna got a reaction from expatq8 in Has Anyone Renewed Maid Visa Recently?
    Hi Expatq8...
It is a long story and long long process.
We started processing in May...and she was able to arrive only in August...
Maybe because we did her first visa(pink paper that lasts for 2 month so we had to do twice)
before they put a ban on (This part I am not 100% sure though), she was still able to come.
(thank GOD we had kept our privious nanny for those times).
I heard it is not completely banned but very slow and difficult process so Agency
will not bring from philipines anymore...but again this not confirmed, need to check with agency or Embassy.
Anyway, my case was a bit different as we knew her already through our privoius
nanny and we had her ready for the passport etc...then the agency had prepared the rest
for us to get her out of the country...which was a nightmare...(after thousand of phone calls)
For the energy and time and the money wasted...I thought it will be the best if you find someone
already here or you can find someone can enter with Tourist visa then can change the status if you
    prefer Philippine nationality.
    Good luck to you !

Hi, Nothing related to your question but can't help not writing as you are moving from HKG !!
I and my hubby used to live in HKG before coming to AD about 3-4 yrs back.
We miss so much and going back every yr, infact we just visited HKG a month ago.
It will be great if you bring your lovely maid here with you as it is not easy to find a
good one here... (at least my experience was not an easy one at all...)
but It will be quite difficult for your maid to adjust here in the beginning...
(well there is no Sunday gathering at the Central at least to begin with ^^)
Wish the best and smooth transition for your family !

As Bee7 mentioned, one of our favorate place to relax on weekend is at SONTAYA...
Food is really good, we go for late lunch then move to Turquoise for a coffee or beer...
Saadiyat public beach is also nice...
Can visit to RAK Hilton Beach resort or Cove Rotana and get a massage there.
Anyway, AD is a quiet and relaxing city in general, hope your sister will enjoy !

Do anyone here practice yoga at the 'Bodytree' ?
I have seen occasionally there are ladies coming in & out in the evening in one of the vila
near my place and always wonders what is that place and came to know that place
happened to be the one that I have been looking for some time to practice yoga ^^
If you practice there, would you recommend?, any recommendations on instructor ?
I may have time to practice only 1-2 class /week...

Our nanny works 6 days a week most times, unless she wishes to go and see her sister in Dubai then we give her to take 2 days off over the weekend.
She wakes up at 7am to have my son ready for the nursery by 7:45 then she is free till 1pm.
She is free to go out to the mall/super market but is asked to be back by 1 pm.
I work till 1 pm then take my son from nursery. then she starts house work till 8 pm.
If my son takes a nap or she finishes work early she is free to rest.
I cook so she is not asked to cook. Most imporatntly she is very happy with our family.
I believe what is written in the contract is imporatnt but also how you treat your maid is
    important as well.
What made you think I want a slave not a maid ? - that is a very strong comment to leave to someone that you don't know !

As always, topics regarding maids become heated after a while. It is not a good idea to judge anyone based on the information she writes here. Andyka is clearly new to employing a maid as most of us were when we came to the UAE. She will learn in the process and I feel that she will be a good employer. But of course this is just my feeling and it is not objective.

It is worthwhile spending a few weeks trying to find the right maid for you. And remember, you are not alone feeling frustrated. Many of us have been through this a few times. Once you found "the right one" it is a good idea to write a clear contract where you lay down the "rules" and make sure you both adhere to these. The rest is mostly empathy, gut feelings and unwritten rules. It's a learning process and hope you will enjoy it and will not face many disappointments. Sok szerencset!!

Hi, for me, it was definately worth it ! but I did not pay a fortune as we were there when
    not so busy season (May).
If you have children it is great ! even if not, it is still romantic and tranquil.
It is just only Anantara, so you will need to dine there and food is a bit pricy.
In order to enjoy the nature, you will need to join the activities and they are chargeable.
I am not sure about the ruins...but the island is beautiful.
I would sugeest also to consider Qasr Al Sarab if you just want to relax.

Entertainer voucher have removed benefits for all restaurants in Beach Rotana since 2012,
again this year Beach rotana is not included I believe .....
We also go to Rodeo Grill & FINZ quite often, so we paid 950 aed/year for their
exclusive reward card to get discounts for the all Rotana's venue(Dubai & other GCC inclusive).
It is costy but they will give 250 aed voucher to use and if you go 2-3 times you will get already what you paid.
To make the card, it is easy, just fill the application form from any of the rotana hotels.
You will be able to use temporary card right away for the points and the discount.

Hi all, We are driving first time to Muscat this weekend.
I believe border will be busy... anyone knows what's the best way & Best hour to get?
When I see the map, it seems like there is only 1 way to get to Muscat which is from Sohar.
So I guess we will have to go to Al Ain (Buraimi) then to Sohar to Muscat.
Correct me if I'm wrong... And lastly, how long will be the total driving hour from AD ?
